The Beatles

"Get Back
The song originally released as a single on 11 April 1969 and credited to "The Beatles with Billy Preston."[3] A different mix of the song later became the closing track of Let It Be (1970), which was the Beatles' last album released just after the group split. The single version was later issued on CD on the second disc of the Past Masters compilation.
The single reached number one in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, France, West Germany, and Mexico. It was the Beatles' only single that credited another artist at their request. "Get Back" was the Beatles' first single release in true stereo in the US. In the UK, the Beatles' singles remained monaural until the following release, "The Ballad of John and Yoko".

Bee Gees

"Too Much Heaven"
A song by the Bee Gees, which was the band's contribution to the "Music for UNICEF" fund. They performed it at the Music for UNICEF Concert on 9 January 1979. The song later found its way to the group's thirteenth original album, Spirits Having Flown. In the United States and Canada, it became the latest in a long line of chart-toppers, and rose to the top three in the United Kingdom, as well.
Imbued with their falsetto style, it is also notable for being one of two songs on the album featuring the Chicago horn section (James Pankow, Walt Parazaider and Lee Loughnane)--the other track with the Chicago members being "Search, Find".

Michael Jackson

"You Rock My World"
A song  by Michael Jackson  from his tenth and final studio album Invincible (2001).
It was released as the lead single from the album in August 2001 by Epic Records. The lyrics pertain to being in love and trying to gain a woman's affection. Produced by Jackson and Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins and written by Jackson, Jerkins, Fred Jerkins III, LaShawn Daniels and Nora Payne, the song is musically a disco pop song with influences from Jackson's songs from his previous studio albums with Quincy Jones.
The song received mixed reviews from music critics, with reviewers commenting that Jackson could have made a better effort for it and that it was not his best material, while other reviewers generally praised the song's composition and Jackson's vocal performance. "You Rock My World" was commercially successful worldwide and peaked at number ten on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Jackson's first top ten single in the United States in over six years, and his last in the country for the remainder of his career. "You Rock My World" topped the French music chart for three consecutive weeks. It also reached the top ten in Australia, Austrian, Canada, Danish, Finnish, Italian, Swedish, Swiss and the United Kingdom music charts.
As part of promotion for the song, a music video was released. The video, which is fourteen minutes long, was directed by Paul Hunter and features Chris Tucker. In the video, Jackson and Tucker portray men who are trying to gain a woman's affection. The video has been compared to Jackson's previous videos, "Smooth Criminal" and "The Way You Make Me Feel", and has received mixed reviews. The song was performed only twice by Jackson; at Madison Square Garden in New York City at two concerts in September 2001 to celebrate Jackson's career as a solo artist. Footage of the performance was shown in the two-hour CBS television special, Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Special. The track was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance at the 44th Grammy Awards.

Prince

"Sign o' the Times" (also stylized as "Sign “☮” the Times")
The lead single off Prince's 1987 album of the same name. The song is a holdover from both the Dream Factory and Crystal Ball projects, promoted to the title track of the 1987 release. Prince performs the entire track except for some backing vocals by then-girlfriend Susannah Melvoin. "Sign o' the Times" was written on a Sunday, when Prince usually wrote his most introspective songs. The song proved popular upon release, topping the R&B chart, and reaching number three on the Billboard Hot 100.[1] Rolling Stone ranked "Sign o' the Times" #299 on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Michael Jackson ft. Paul McCartney

"The Girl is Mine"
The song recorded by Michael Jackson featuring Paul McCartney. The track was written by Jackson and produced by Jackson and Quincy Jones. It was released as the first single for Jackson's sixth solo album, Thriller (1982). The song was recorded at Westlake Studios, Los Angeles, from April 14 to 16, 1982. McCartney is the only featured guest on the album. The year before, Jackson and McCartney had recorded "Say Say Say" and "The Man" for the latter's fifth solo album, Pipes of Peace (1983). Although it was released as a single, Jackson never performed the song live.
"The Girl Is Mine" achieved success in the music charts. Aside from topping the R&B singles chart, the single peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and number eight in the UK. By 1985, it had sold 1.3 million copies, and was eventually certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, for shipments of at least one million units.
"The Girl Is Mine" has been the subject of two plagiarism lawsuits. Both instances required Jackson to testify in court, and each lawsuit found in the favour of the singer and his record label. In 2008, for the 25th anniversary edition of Thriller, Black Eyed Peas singer Will.i.am remixed "The Girl Is Mine". The remix received generally unfavourable reviews from music critics.

Barry White

"Love's Theme"
An instrumental piece recorded by Barry White's Love Unlimited Orchestra and released in 1973. It is one of the few instrumental and purely orchestral singles to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States, in early 1974. The piece was included on the albums Under the Influence of Love Unlimited (by the vocal group Love Unlimited) and Rhapsody in White.
The recording, with a large string orchestra and wah-wah guitar, is considered to be an influence to the disco sound, which would explode in popularity the following year. The song was also popular on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart in the U.S., where the song spent two weeks at #1. It was also used by ABC Sports for many years as the opening theme music for its golf coverage. In Canada, the single saw similar success, reaching #1 on the RPM 100 National Singles Chart on March 2, 1974.[1]
The Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airlines used the song for their TV advertisements.
In addition, "Love's Theme" has been recorded with lyrics (penned by White's publisher, Aaron Schroeder), with vocal versions by such artists as Love Unlimited (on their 1974 album In Heat), Julio Iglesias, and Andy Williams. Enoch Light recorded an electro-disco instrumental version of the song on his 1977 album, Disco Disque. The song is also part of Meco's instrumental medley "Hooked On Instrumentals Part I" (from the 1985 album Hooked On Instrumentals). In May 1993, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark released their single "Dream of Me (Based on Love's Theme)" (from their album Liberator, released the same year) on which they sang their own lyrics over a sample of this Barry White composition. This single reached #24 on the UK Singles Chart, and writing credits were given to Barry White.
This song was covered by an American smooth jazz trumpeter Rick Braun and by American guitarist Chuck Loeb.

Barry White

"I'm Gonna Love You Just a Little More Baby"
The song is written, produced and recorded by Barry White. Considering how successful it would end up being, it would probably come as a surprise that, for many years, White had little to no interest in a recording career.[1] During the late 1960s and early 1970s, he built up a good resume as an arranger/producer and songwriter for singers Felice Taylor and Viola Wills and in 1972, White found great commercial success on the U.S. Pop and R&B charts with "Walkin' in the Rain (With the One I Love)", a song he wrote, arranged and made a brief, non-singing cameo on that was recorded by the female vocal trio Love Unlimited and released by the MCA-owned label, Uni Records.
White's relationship with Uni would soon sour due to the departure of label-head Russ Regan. With Love Unlimited still contract-bound to Uni, White decided to work with another artist, specifically a male one. He recorded three song demos of himself singing and playing the piano. White had a feeling that one of the songs, "I'm Gonna Love You Just a Little More Baby", would be a good song to record himself. Initially hesitant to tell his business partner, Larry Nunes, about the song, White eventually changed his mind and told Nunes about "I'm Gonna Love You Just a Little More Baby", as well as the other two songs. Nunes was greatly impressed and urged White to re-record and release them as a recording artist. It would take two months but eventually Nunes convinced White to do it and White secured a recording deal with 20th Century Records through Russ Regan. White was still hesitating up to the time the label copy was made and even considered releasing the record under the name "White Heat", but he was talked out of that, as well. Appearing with White on the recording session for the song were guitarists Ray Parker Jr., Wah Wah Watson, Dean Parks, and David T. Walker; drummer Ed Greene; bassists Wilton Felder of the Crusaders and Nathan East; and vibes player Gary Coleman.[2] Released in the spring of 1973 as the first single from his 1973 debut album I've Got So Much to Give, the song was a #1 hit on the U.S. R&B chart for two weeks, peaked at number three on the Billboard Pop Singles chart[3] and reached #23 on the UK singles chart. The single was also certified gold by the RIAA for sales of one million copies.
Samples of the song have been used in numerous hip hop recordings over the years by artists such as Big Daddy Kane, De La Soul, Eric B & Rakim, Ghostface Killah, L.L. Cool J, N.W.A., Nas, Mos Def, and Too Short.[4] The track is featured in Liam Howlett's Dirtchamber Sessions Volume 1 DJ-mix album. It has appeared in the films, "Love Serenade", "High Fidelity", "Kissing Jessica Stein" and "Bringing Down the House". It was used in the season seven "Friends" episode, "The One with Ross and Monica's Cousin" and in the season one "Cold Case" episode, "The Runner". It was spoofed by Sesame Street in a musical skit with Cookie Monster (backed up by the Crumbs Unlimited Orchestra) as "Me going to Munch You Munch You Munch You".

Prince

"I Wanna Be Your Lover"
The second is from album Prince. Released in 1979.
It was his first successful single, gaining radio airplay and chart success: the song scored two weeks at number one on the R&B singles chart during December 1979, and peaked at number eleven on the Billboard Hot 100.[1]
In the U.S. the B-side of the track was "My Love Is Forever", from his previous album, For You. In the UK, the B-side was "Just as Long as We're Together", also from For You. This was Prince's debut single in the UK. It charted together with "Sexy Dancer" on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart, where it reached number two.[2]
Prince included a sample of this song in the opening of his 1992 song "My Name Is Prince".

"Gett Off"
....is the lead single by Prince and The New Power Generation from the 1991 album Diamonds and Pearls.[2] The song was a last-minute addition to the album, replacing "Horny Pony", which became the song's B-side (on the packaging for Diamonds and Pearls, "Horny Pony" is written in red over "Gett Off", to fit in with the narrative track listing.) The cover uses a face drawn in place of the first letter in the word Off, and Prince's name written in reverse. The song was a hit on both sides of the Atlantic, reaching #4 in the United Kingdom and #21 in the United States.

Bee Gees

"Stayin' Alive"
...a song by the pop group Bee Gees from the Saturday Night Fever motion picture soundtrack. The song was written by the Bee Gees (Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb) and produced by the Bee Gees, Albhy Galuten and Karl Richardson. It was released on 13 December 1977, as the second single from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. It is one of their signature songs.
Upon release, "Stayin' Alive" climbed the charts to hit the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 the week of 4 February 1978, remaining there for four weeks. In the process, it became one of the band's most recognisable tunes, in part because of its place at the beginning of Saturday Night Fever.

Bee Gees

"Night Fever"
...a disco song, written and performed by The Bee Gees. It first appeared on the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever. Producer Robert Stigwood wanted to call the film Saturday Night, but singer Robin Gibb expressed hesitation at the title. Stigwood liked the title Night Fever but was wary of marketing a movie with that name. He combined the two suggestions and the idea for Saturday Night Fever as a motion picture was born.[citation needed]
"Night Fever" remained the number one Billboard Hot 100 single for over two months in 1978. It also replaced Andy Gibb's "Love Is Thicker Than Water" at number one, and was in turn replaced by Yvonne Elliman's "If I Can't Have You" - all of which were written and produced by the Gibb brothers.
After the success of "Night Fever," the Governor of Florida, Reubin O'Donovan Askew, made the three men "honorary citizens" of the state, due to the amount of time they spent each year recording singles in Miami.[citation needed]
In addition to Saturday Night Fever, the song has also appeared in the movie and on the soundtrack for Mystery Men.
The song lists at #33 on Billboard's All Time Top 100.[3]

Madonna

"Holiday"
...a song by American singer Madonna from her self-titled debut album. Released on September 7, 1983 by Sire Records, it later appeared remixed on the 1987 remix compilation You Can Dance and the 1990 greatest hits compilation The Immaculate Collection, and in its original form on the 2009 greatest hits album Celebration. Written by Curtis Hudson and Lisa Stevens of Pure Energy, the track was offered to Madonna by her producer John "Jellybean" Benitez when she was looking for a potential hit track to include in her debut album. After accepting the song, she and Jellybean worked on it and altered its composition by the addition of a piano solo developed by their friend, Fred Zarr.
"Holiday" features instrumentation from guitars, electronic handclaps, cowbell, and a synthesized string arrangement while talking about the universal sentiment of taking a holiday. Universally revered by critics, commercially, the song was Madonna's first hit single when it entered the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 while peaking its dance chart. The song was also a crossover success, entering the top ten and top 40 of many European countries.
Madonna has performed "Holiday" on most of her tours—most recently at the 2009 leg of the Sticky & Sweet Tour. The song is generally included as a part of the encore or as the closing song of the show. Different performances of the song are included in the recorded releases of her tours. Cover versions by a number of artists have been released, and it has also appeared in the soundtrack of sitcoms like Will & Grace.
In the United Kingdom, "Holiday" has been released three times as a single; in January 1984, reaching number six, re-issued in August 1985 reaching number 2 (only being kept from number one by her own "Into the Groove" single). It was re-released with new artwork in 1991 to promote The Immaculate Collection with a limited edition EP The Holiday Collection which contained tracks omitted from the compilation, this version reached number five.

Carlos Santana

"Evil Ways"
A song by Santana from their 1969 album Santana. It was written by Clarence "Sonny" Henry and recorded by jazz percussionist Willie Bobo in 1968 on his album of the same name. The song is in simple verse form[1]. Next year it was recorded by Santana.
Released as a single in late 1969, it became the band's first top forty and top ten hit in the U.S., peaking at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Gregg Rolie performs the lead vocals and plays a Hammond organ solo in the middle section. The double-time coda includes a guitar solo performed by Carlos Santana.
"Evil Ways" is about a girl who is spiteful. "You've got to change your evil ways, baby/Before I stop lovin' you." She tries to make her boyfriend jealous by associating with her friends. "You hangin' 'round, baby/With Jean and Joan and-a who-knows-who."
Some radio stations play edit versions of the song, cutting a few bars from the introduction, parts of the organ instrumental portion in the middle, and the coda, shortening the guitar improvisation by fading the song out earlier, part of this reason is to make it more for AM radio use, than for progressive rock use.

AC / DC

"Thunderstruck
The first song on the 1990 AC/DC album The Razors Edge.
The song peaked at No. 5 on U.S. the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks. It was released as a single in Germany, Australia, and Japan. The song is said to be inspired by lead guitarist Angus Young's hair-raising experience when a plane he was on was struck by lightning. Another theory states that the song was conceived when the band watched a Combined Arms Livefire EXercise (CALFEX) at Ft. Hood. The band was so impressed by the M1A1 tank that they wrote a song about it. However, Angus Young stated in the liner notes of the 2003 re-release of The Razors Edge:
"It started off from a little trick I had on guitar. I played it to Mal and he said 'Oh, I've got a good rhythm idea that will sit well in the back.' We built the song up from that. We fiddled about with it for a few months before everything fell into place. Lyrically, it was really just a case of finding a good title ... We came up with this thunder thing and it seemed to have a good ring to it. AC/DC=Power. That's the basic idea."[1]
Contrary to popular belief, Young does not play "Thunderstruck"'s main riff with one hand. Instead, he picks every note. Additionally in all AC/DC live videos, Angus can clearly be viewed picking every note. The one-handed tapping technique can only be seen in the "Thunderstruck" music video. The opening riff oscillitates between B major and e minor.
The video which accompanied the single was filmed at London's Brixton Academy on 17 August 1990. The audience members were given free T-shirts with the words 'AC/DC – I was Thunderstruck' on the front and the date on the back, and these T-shirts were worn by the entire audience throughout the filming of the video.
In 2010, this song topped Triple M's Ultimate 500 Rock Countdown in Melbourne, Australia. The top five were all AC/DC songs.[2]
With the exception of new material from an album they are touring behind, this is one of only two songs released after Back in Black that the band still regularly performs live in concert, the other being "For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)".
As of July 2010, the official music video on YouTube has more than 41 million views.
