The song was released as the first of three singles from the Permanent Vacation album in 1987. It reached #14 on the Billboard Hot 100, #41 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart, #4 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, and peaked at #45 on the UK Singles Chart. The song was written by songwriter Desmond Child, lead guitarist Joe Perry and lead singer Steven Tyler.

Woodstock '94, often called the "commercial Woodstock", was a music festival organized to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the original Woodstock Festival of 1969. It was promoted as "2 More Days of Peace and Music." The famous poster used to promote the first concert was revised to feature two birds perched on a guitar (instead of one).

The concert was scheduled for August 13 and 14 of 1994, but a third day (August 12) was added.

The event took place on a large field in Saugerties, New York, about 100 miles (160 km) north of New York City. The site is only 10 miles (16 km) from Woodstock, New York and it was originally proposed as the location for the 1969 concert^{[citation needed]}. Permission to use the property was not granted the first time around, so the first concert was instead held in Sullivan County, much farther from the namesake town of Woodstock.^{[citation needed]}

The crowd at Woodstock '94 was estimated at 350,000.^[1] A smaller crowd, estimated at 130,000, attended a competing 'unofficial' but FREE concert at the site of the original Woodstock Festival in Bethel, NY> In 1994 the weather was similar to that in 1969: rainy. By Saturday much of the entire field had turned into mud. The Bethel festival was produced by Richie Havens, Ken Lauber, Bernard Fox and Gene Perla and all the contributing artists.

The festival was followed by Woodstock 1999.

Aerosmith is an American hard rock band, sometimes referred to as "The Bad Boys from Boston"^[1] and "America's Greatest Rock and Roll Band".^[2][3][4][5] Their style, which is rooted in blues-based hard rock,^[6][7] has come to also incorporate elements of pop,^[8] heavy metal,^[6] and rhythm and blues,^[9] and has inspired many subsequent rock artists.^[10] The band was formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1970. Guitarist Joe Perry and bassist Tom Hamilton, originally in a band together called the Jam Band, met up with singer Steven Tyler, drummer Joey Kramer, and guitarist Ray Tabano, and formed Aerosmith. In 1971, Tabano was replaced by Brad Whitford, and the band began developing a following in Boston.

They were signed to Columbia Records in 1972, and released a string of multi-platinum albums, beginning with their 1973 eponymous debut album, followed by their 1974 album Get Your Wings. In 1975, the band broke into the mainstream with the album Toys in the Attic, and their 1976 follow-up Rocks cemented their status as hard rock superstars.^[11] By the end of the 1970s, they were among the most popular hard rock bands in the world and developed a loyal following of fans, often referred to as the "Blue Army".^[12] However, drug addiction and internal conflict took their toll on the band, which resulted in the departures of Perry and Whitford, in 1979 and 1981 respectively. They were replaced by Jimmy Crespo and Rick Dufay.^[7] The band did not fare well between 1980 and 1984, releasing a lone album, Rock in a Hard Place, which went gold but failed to match their previous successes.

Although Perry and Whitford returned in 1984 and the band signed a new deal with Geffen Records, it was not until the band sobered up and released 1987's Permanent Vacation that they regained the level of popularity they had experienced in the 1970s.^[13] Throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, the band scored several hits and won numerous awards for music from the multi-platinum albums Pump (1989), Get a Grip (1993), and Nine Lives (1997). Their comeback has been described as one of the most remarkable and spectacular in rock 'n' roll history.^[6][7] After 41 years of performing, the band continues to tour and record music.

Aerosmith is the best-selling American rock band of all time, having sold more than 150 million albums worldwide,^[14] including 66.5 million albums in the United States alone.^[15] They also hold the record for the most gold and multi-platinum albums by an American group. The band has scored 21 Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, nine #1 Mainstream Rock hits, four Grammy Awards, and ten MTV Video Music Awards. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001, and were included among both Rolling Stone's and VH1's lists of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time
