"Catfish Blues"

"Catfish Blues" is one of Robert Petway most influential songs, which he recorded in 1941. Muddy Waters used the lyrics and style of "Catfish Blues" for his first single "Rollin' Stone", the song from which the rock group The Rolling Stones chose their band name. There is debate on whether Petway deserves any credit for the Muddy Waters song, mostly stemming from the fact that blues musicians often borrow lines and verses from each other and often use common symbols and phrases that can not be traced back to one source. There is even some speculation that Tommy McClennan wrote the version that Petway recorded. Max Haymes has written a well-researched article, "Catfish Blues (Origins of a Blues)" on the topic, available at earlyblues.com. When David "Honeyboy" Edwards, a follower of Petway, was asked if Petway wrote the song, he replied, "He just made that song up and used to play it at them old country dances. He just made it up and kept it in his head."[1]

Η πανελλήνια επιτυχία του βέβαια έγινε ακόμη μεγαλύτερη μέσω του σπουδαίου λαϊκού τραγουδιστή από την Κρήτη του Μανώλη Λιδάκη το 1997, ηχογράφηση που περιέχεται εκτός από το cd "O Ήλιος του Γενάρη" και στον δίσκο του Ψαρογιάννη (Γιάννη Ξυλούρη) με τίτλο "Αυγή Ξανανταμώσαμε" (Αεράκης ΣΑ 581).

Το "Αστρα μη με μαλώνετε" είναι ένα Κρητικό τραγούδι, γραμμένο σαν μαντινάδα, με τυπικά χαρακτηριστικά του κρητικού τραγουδιού, όπως είναι η επανάληψη στίχων και λέξεων, η ιδιότυπη ρίμα και φυσικά το θέμα του πόνου και έρωτα.
Το τραγούδι έχει γραφτεί από έναν Κρητικό, τον Λευτέρη Καμπουράκη, γνωστό και ως Καστελολευτέρη. Η ιστορία του τραγουδιού είναι εξίσου ενδιαφέρουσα με τους στίχους του, καθώς ο τραγουδοποιός γυρνούσε ένα βράδυ από ένα γλέντι, με βαριά την ψυχή του από τον πόνο της αγάπης, αποφάσισε να πει τον πόνο του και τον καημό του στα άστρα. Έτσι λοιπόν γεννήθηκε το τραγούδι "Άστρα μη με μαλώνετε".
Πρόκειται ουσιαστικά για έναν σιγανό χορό που περιέχει μαντινάδες οι οποίες έχουν γίνει αρκετά δημοφιλείς σε όλη την Ελλάδα. Την πρώτη μαντινάδα του κομματιού τη συναντάμε για πρώτη φορά σε μια ηχογράφηση δίσκου 78" με κοντυλιές, του μεγάλου βιολάτορα Στρατή Καλογερίδη με τραγούδι από τις αδελφές Παπαδάκη. Η ηχογράφηση αυτή περιλαμβάνεται στους "Πρωτομάστορες", δισκ. 10, "Στ.Καλογερίδης, Χάρχαλης, Γ. Μαύρος, Ναύτης".
Το "Άστρα μη με μαλώνετε" όπως το ξέρουμε σήμερα, ηχογραφήθηκε για πρώτη φορά το 1982 στο δίσκο "Ω να χαρώ χαρώ το" (ΜΙΝΟΣ 484) από το Χαράλαμπο Γαργανουράκη ο οποίος πρόσθεσε τις υπόλοιπες μαντινάδες, σε μουσική του Καστελολευτέρη (Λευτέρης Καμπουράκης). Εκεί θα λέγαμε, ότι έγινε αρκετά γνωστό σε όλο το νησί της Κρήτης.
Σταδιακά ο δίσκος έγινε δυσεύρετος καθώς το cd άρχισε να κυριαρχεί στην αγορά και η εταιρεία στην οποία βγήκε ο δίσκος δεν το κυκλοφόρησε αργότερα σε ψηφιακό δίσκο. Το κενό αυτό αναπληρώθηκε από το Χαρ. Γαργανουράκη το 1993 με την κυκλοφορία του διπλού cd με τίτλο "Κρητικά Κλασσικά", (Αεράκης ΚΜΕ ΣΑ 556/7) όπου υπάρχει επανεκτέλεση του τραγουδιού. Το 1993 επίσης ο Βαγγέλης Πυθαρούλης κυκλοφόρησε το cd "Ονειροκαλεσμένη - Τα μελιτζανιά" (Panivar 40262) το οποίο περιείχε τα "Αστρα" με ενορχήστρώση του Πάρη Περυσινάκη, σε μια εκτέλεση η οποία έδωσε νέα ώθηση στο κομμάτι αυτό.

Η Ελένη Καραΐνδρου (Τείχιο, 25 Νοεμβρίου 1939) είναι Ελληνίδα συνθέτρια.
Σπούδασε πιάνο στο Ελληνικό Ωδείο και Ιστορία και αρχαιολογία στο Καποδιστριακό Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών. Επίσης σπούδασε ενορχήστρωση και διεύθυνση ορχήστρας στη Schola Cantorum και εθνομουσικολογία στο École pratique des hautes études στο Παρίσι.
Έχει συνθέσει πολλά έργα για το θέατρο και τον κινηματογράφο. Είναι ιδιαίτερα γνωστή για τη συνεργασία της με τον Θόδωρο Αγγελόπουλο, καθώς και με τον θεατρικό σκηνοθέτη Αντώνη Αντύπα. Έργα της κυκλοφορούν διεθνώς από τη γερμανική δισκογραφική εταιρία ECM.

Glen grew up on the South Side of Chicago, the daughter of Dell Glen (American-Jamaican) and Cortez Glen (Mexican-American). Glen's father was a blues guitarist, her grandmother a gospel singer, and her mother was friends with the legendary blues guitarist BB King. Her mother Dell graduated from the University of Chicago and went on to become a successful banker who worked for Merrill Lynch. Glen's father, an American patriot who joined the military at a young age, became an engineer based in Frankfurt, Germany. Like many other children in Chicago's historic Bronzeville neighborhood (also known as the Black Metropolis) who received gifts and inspiration from folks like Muddy Waters and BB King, Marla was given a toy harmonica as a child, and her musical talent became immediately apparent. Glen was only 11 years old when she wrote her first song "Repertoire", a title that has won 3 gold records and one platinum, and appears on Glen's 1996 release, "Love and Respect". Since 1998 she lives in Heilbronn in Germany. On July 2, 2004 she entered a civil union with Sabrina Conley at the local Rathaus.[1] In the meantime, they got divorced.[2]

After being discovered by Golden Earring frontman Barry Hay, Anouk had her breakthrough in the Netherlands in 1997 with the single "Nobody's Wife". Ryuichi Sakamoto (坂本 龍一 Sakamoto Ryūichi, born January 17, 1952) is a Japanese musician, composer, record producer, writer, singer, pianist, and actor, based in Tokyo and New York. He began his career in 1978 as a member of the pioneering electronic music band Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO),[1][2] where he played the keyboards and occasionally sang the vocals. The band was an international success, with worldwide hits such as "Computer Game / Firecracker" (1978) and "Behind the Mask" (1978),[3] the latter written and sung by Sakamoto. At around the same time, he began pursuing a solo career in pop music, debuting with an experimental electronic fusion album The Thousand Knives of Ryūichi Sakamoto (1978), and later released the pioneering electro music album B-2 Unit (1980), which included the electro classic "Riot in Lagos".[4][5][6] After YMO disbanded in 1983, he produced more hit solo records, including collaborations with various international artists, through to the 1990s.
He began acting and film composing with Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (1983), which he starred in and composed the score for; the song "Forbidden Colours" which he composed for it became a worldwide hit and he won a BAFTA Award for the film's score.[7] He later won an Academy Award and Grammy Award for scoring The Last Emperor (1987),[8] and has also won two Golden Globe Awards for his work as a film composer.[7] In addition, he also composed music for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics opening ceremony. In the early 1990s, he briefly reunited with YMO, playing an instrumental role in the techno and acid house movements of the era, before parting ways again shortly afterwards.[9] His 1999 musical composition "Energy Flow", also known as the alternative title of the single disc Ura BTTB, was the first number-one instrumental single in Japan's Oricon charts history.[10] He has also occasionally worked on anime and video games, as a composer as well as a scenario writer. In the late 2000s, he reunited once again with YMO, while continuing to compose film music.
